DDOS again

The WRGPT server is the victim of another DDOS attack.  This one may mean the end of WRGPT18 as the ISP is not just threatening but promising to shut down my internet connection if the attack continues.

The tourney is on hold with seven players until such a time as this can be resolved.

If you are the person or persons orchestrating the DDOS attack you have given up a large number of your zombies for this trivial exercise.  Please stop the attack and do not resume if/when the tourney continues.

DDOS over - back to normal

I forgot to post the follow up as promised so here it is, late.

After a 24 hour waiting period the internet connectivity was restored.  The server got back to normal within a few hours.  Timeouts were re-enabled about 30 hours after connectivity was restored and the tourney continued.

Now we are on the final table.

Good luck to the final table players.

WRGPT Server Status - DDOS

As of around 3pm today, June 9, 2009 a DDOS attack was launched against the WRGPT server.

The ISP shut down the connection within a few minutes.  The effect of this is that the server will be down for an unknown period of time.

The timeouts have been disabled and play is effectively suspended until this is resolved.

I will post more information as it becomes available.

We are now down to 99 players.

problem with Table c28, hand 75

There was a problem on table c28 with hand 75.  If you were on the railbird list you may have noticed.

At 5:52pm on 1/14/2009 the table finished with a call from player "Sharon" that eliminated player "Little Gamey".

This hand summary went out to the list.

Then at 9:34pm on 1/14/2009 the table finished AGAIN with what appears to be a timeout from player "Sharon" thereby giving the pot to "Little Gamey".  This hand summary also went out to the list.

WRGPT does not "run'em twice".

What happened is that the hand was completed as per the first hand summary eliminating "Little Gamey".  The dealer then did not correctly "clean up" the hand data and start a new hand.

Later, when the timeout would have come if "Sharon" has not taken action it folded player "Sharon".  This time the dealer did get the hand cleaned up properly and started a new hand.

Per floorman decision the first finish stands.  We see this as equivalent to awarding the last hand before a break then having the players return from the break to notice that the chip counts have changed.

To correct this all players were given the stacks they would have had if the first finish had stood.  Then the table was broken as that was the easiest way for me to get the players going again as there was already a live redraw in progress.

The hand #76 that started inadvertently was voided.

I do have a pretty good idea what bug in the dealer software caused this to happen.  I will continue to investigate to make sure then implement a fix so that it cannot happen again.

Bug in Dealer - Table c2

Today we noticed a bug at table c2 that was due to an unusual circumstance.

Here is the link to the table

This hand had a very unusual thing happen.  There was an all-in player who was on vacation, Jadie Rage, and another vacationing player in the big blind, Matt Rouse.

Jadie got all-in on the ante of $25.

The hand was folded around to the big blind.

The WRGPT rules are that a player on vacation cannot win a hand if they started the hand on vacation.  The implementation of this is to not show the vacationing player's cards nor evaluate their hand.

So, when only vacationing players remain in the hand who wins?  Where do the chips go?

In a live in person tourney they would not just disappear or go to the dealer's tray.

In this case the dealer awarded the uncalled bets over the $25 of the all-in player to the big blind.  This was $625.

That leaves $25 per each of 10 players for $250 to the winner of the hand.

No winner was decided so that money went away.

That is not correct.  The money cannot just go away.

The dealer knew this and complained to the floormen and anyone who happened to ask it for a command during this time.  The dealer noticed that the total chips that were supposed to be on the table did not match the sum of the stacks and was different by $250.

Luckily (or not) a live redraw put a new player into the vacated seat lost by Jadie who had resigned.  This caused the stacks to be added and a new total table chip count to be written which corrected the error, but not really.  The total now matched the sums but it was still short by $250 from what it should have been.

So, I protested the hand under the name of Matt Rouse and gave Matt the $250.  In a live tourney the chips may have been awarded to the button as they would have been the last live player.  Cards are removed right after dealing in most live tourneys if the player is not seated.  However, in WRGPT you can come back right up until it is your turn and there is a bet to you.  You can even check if you are not at the table.  This does kinda violate the vacationing player cannot win rule but the dealer handles uncalled bets this way throughout the tourney.  This one just happened to have some contested chips in play.  Had their not been an all-in vacationing player Matt would have received the chips from the dealer.

I will look into changing this for WRGPT19 but it would require a rule change to a dead hand if gone when the hand is dealt.

New timeout / command page

I have created a new timeout and command usage page for your curiosity viewing pleasure.

This is a combination of some data I was interested in finding out put into one report updated daily.

Give it a look at:

http://hands.wrgpt.org/timeoutreport.html

WRGPT18 is starting later tonight

The real tourney will begin early Monday morning Pacific time
which is just a few hours away from now.

Your ID will NOT start with a "p" as those were for the practice round.

You must reply to the dealer with a BACK command to come off of vacation.

Once everyone is back on your table or 24 hours has elapsed your table
will start the first hand.

Do NOT play any stack but your own.  Players found to be playing more
than one stack will have ALL of the involved stacks removed from the
tourney.  Do not send in a FOLD for a friend.  If the friend cannot
make the play they will go on vacation.  Do not send in ANY commands
for anyone other than yourself.  This is the only warning you will
receive.

If you find out when the tourney starts that you have somehow been
given more than one stack let the floorman know which stack to keep and
we will remove the other stack(s).  I can understand if you forgot
you had already registered and ended up registering twice.  Just have
one removed and there is no problem.

As a courtesy to other players try to act quickly and make your
moves in advance of your turn when practical.  Players are all over
the world and play can sometimes be unavoidably slow.  So, do your
part to keep the play moving.

Good luck!

WRGPT18 Practice Round ending around 10/31/2008

The practice round will end without warning around 10/31.

When the real tournament starts, you will receive a new ID.  Reply BACK to the "Start of Game" message to play.  "No Shows" will be removed after 30 days.  Your practice round ID, which starts with a "p", will no longer be valid so do not use it in the real tournament.

Please remember that changes made to email addresses and start times during the practice round will not carry over to the real tournament.  You can change them with the ADDR and START commands after the tournament starts.  Your current settings can be viewed with the WHAT command.  This includes resignations - if you do not want to play in the main tournament, please let the floorman know via email by 10/31.

Good luck.

Practice Round starting Monday

The WRGPT18 Practice round will start early Monday.

Remember, you must reply to the DEALER with a BACK command to start playing.

If you think you registered before Sunday and did not receive your notice by about noon Pacific time Monday then check to make sure you have registered at:

If you see your screen name then there is a chance you typed your email address incorrectly.  You should have received a message shortly after registering confirming your registration.

If you do not see your screen name and you did not receive your registration confirmation then register again.  Duplicates are usually taken care of by the registration scrubbing scripts.

If after registering AGAIN and still not receiving your confirmation email let the floorman know.  If you are using Yahoo! mail they sometimes block that registration confirmation email as spam.
