Practice Round starting Monday

The WRGPT18 Practice round will start early Monday.

Remember, you must reply to the DEALER with a BACK command to start playing.

If you think you registered before Sunday and did not receive your notice by about noon Pacific time Monday then check to make sure you have registered at:

If you see your screen name then there is a chance you typed your email address incorrectly.  You should have received a message shortly after registering confirming your registration.

If you do not see your screen name and you did not receive your registration confirmation then register again.  Duplicates are usually taken care of by the registration scrubbing scripts.

If after registering AGAIN and still not receiving your confirmation email let the floorman know.  If you are using Yahoo! mail they sometimes block that registration confirmation email as spam.

    XML nits:

Early eliminations.xml is last year's, I guess because there are no eliminations yet.

Player "Shake & Bake" breaks the XML, cuz ampersands are reserved characters.

The tables before a40 were incorrectly started because I noticed a problem while starting all the tables.  I didn't think it had anything other than a cosmetic effect.  I just figured out this problem and have started the tables.

I have changed Shake & Bake's name to work well with others in XML / HTML.

The eliminations.xml file is generated from a database table that was not cleared.  It has now been cleared and added to the list of things to clear each year.

I am glad we do a practice round.

As of 2008-10-21 10:32-07:00, standings.xml still contains "Shake & Bake" with the bare ampersand.

The standings only updates when hands are completed. When the table with "Shake and Bake" has completed a hand it will be updated within 30 minutes.

http://hands.wrgpt.org/ does not show tables less than a40.

Are there any plans to switch up the subjects so that they are more GMail friendly? Right now gmail ignores the [table.sequence_id] in it's threading algorithm, so you end up getting the messages in a really oddly sorted way.

Gmail threading can be annoying. I have no answer for that as I do not plan to change the subject any time soon. There are many who filter on the subject in Gmail and other email clients and changing the subject format would break all of those filters. Plus, if I were to change the subject line I wouldn't know how to make sure Gmail doesn't thread it at some level.

I completely agree that it's GMail's problem and not yours. Your point about preexisting filters also makes alot of sense. Maybe offering an option next year for removing the next to act from the subject (I think this would either force gmail to not thread or thread all of it together.)

What Ken said. GMail threading is beyond annoying, especially in that you cannot turn it off.

Google's snotty attitude about how you MUST want the product of their brilliance is only getting worse... iGoogle tabs anyone?

In any event, it's not Ken's problem to fix.
